'Akashwani Sydney' is a major activity of Marathi Association Sydney Inc. Live broadcasts of Marathi programs under this banner started in 1997. The initial broadcast was once a week. Currently, 'Akashwani Sydney' presents Marathi programs twice a week. These programs are also uploaded on the website and are available to audiences across the world to listen at their convenience.
The responsibility of regular broadcasts of these radio programs rests with a group of dedicated volunteers. Every activity relating to the broadcast including presentation of the program, panel operation at the time of the program and uploading the program on Marathi Mandal website is undertaken by these capable volunteers.
The Marathi community within Sydney provides much needed financial support for these programs by participating in the Aashraydate Yojana'. Under this scheme, individual families sponsor radio programs thereby reducing the financial burden on the committee.
The news broadcast from India and Sydney Diary are the highlights of the program on Sundays while 'Vritta Vishesh' provides latest Indian news on Tuesdays.
The aim of these programs is to educate and entertain the Marathi community living far away from India. Live talkback shows and interviews of eminent personalities are some of the popular programs. Regular surveys are conducted to seek feedback from the community.
It is heartening to note the active participation of younger generation 'Gen Y' for the presentation of the radio programs and providing technical assistance.
With the interest and support of such dedicated volunteers spanning across various age groups, it is no surprise that Akashwani Sydney is able to broadcast high quality programs on a regular basis.
